The Charleston Museum welcomes Chipper Wichman, Director and CEO of the National Tropical Botanical Garden, for a lecture on Tuesday, February 4.
The program will begin with a reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by the lecture at 7:00 p.m. in the Museum's auditorium. The program is free and open to the public. 2014 marks the 50th anniversary of the signing of the National Tropical Botanical Garden's Congressional Charter. The story of how the NTBG was created and the impact it is having around the world today is not well known outside of the botanical community. Mr. Wichman will talk about how this organization was literally dreamed into existence by many prominent people including David Fairchild, Joseph Rock, Robert Allerton, Henry Francis duPont and Oscar Chapman. Fifty years after its genesis, NTBG remains the only congressional chartered botanical garden in the world.
