MOJA African-American Civil War Music Program

The Citadel Choir will present a chorale program that will raise up the unsung African-American heroes of the Civil War, from slaves to freedmen, field hands to boatmen, by exploring in song and word their triumphs and tragedies, their bravery and sacrifice, and their interactions with people from both the Union and Confederacy. Traditional songs and gospel spirituals from the era along with original compositions by musician Dana Downs and spoken words from relevant texts celebrating these unsung heroes will make for an inspiring and uplifting musical event to complement the array of MOJA Arts Festival offerings in Charleston.
