The Charleston Museum invites knitters, quilters and other textile enthusiasts to a workshop focusing on dyeing with the quintessential natural dye of the Lowcountry - indigo.
Cultivated successfully by Eliza Lucas Pinckney in the colonial period, indigo dye yields a deep, rich blue like no other. On January 25, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., participants will have the opportunity to dye a hank of yarn using pre-reduced natural indigo and experiment with various techniques and exposure times with the assistance of instructor Tamara Goff. The workshop includes all equipment & supplies, one hank of fine quality yarn, and an indigo dye kit to take home, as well as an exclusive look at indigo-dyed items with the Museum's curator of textiles.
$57/member, $67/non-member. Early registration is strongly recommended as previous sessions have sold out. Register online through the calendar of events at www.charlestonmuseum.org or by calling 843. 722.2996 x235.
