Independence Day at Middleton Place

Spend the 4th of July at the home of a Signer of the Declaration of Independence. Readings of the Declaration will take place every 30 minutes and several interactive demonstrations happen throughout the day, such as meeting a Revolutionary soldier, a family tent with colonial crafts and games and a hands-on military drill.

Readings of Declaration of Independence
A costumed interpreter will read the Declaration of Independence, 5 minutes before each House Museum tour throughout the day.

Meet a Revolutionary Soldier
Visit with a Revolutionary War re-enactor and gain a better understanding of “life in the field” during the War, including a display of equipment and various other soldier accoutrements.

Hands-On Military Drill
Children can experience an 18th century military drill, including learning how to execute tactical movements with wooden muskets.

Family Colonial Crafts and Games
Children of all ages can enjoy writing with a quill pen, making their own tri-corn hat, learning how to make a whirligig and rolling hoops.
