Gullah Rag Quilting Workshop

The Charleston Museum welcomes back Sharon Cooper-Murray, aka the Gullah Lady, for a lecture and hands-on workshop about the folk art tradition of rag quilting.

9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Cooper-Murray has set out on a mission to preserve this disappearing art form, which she has learned from elderly Gullah women from Wadmalaw and Johns Island. Feed and grain sacks were combined with rag strips to make these unique quilts.

This quilting tradition, which dates to the antebellum period, was passed from generation to generation until recent years.

Advance registration is required; early registration is strongly encouraged as previous sessions have sold out quickly.

Register online through the calendar of events at www.charlestonmuseum.org or by calling 722.2996 x235.
