Natural History Curator Matthew Gibson will discuss the impacts of pollution, human population growth, habitat disruption, and the introduction of non-native species on our environment and it's local impacts.
Our planet is an ever-changing complex system. Habitats change in relation to climatic changes, and in turn organisms must also change. This natural order has existed since the beginning of our world. The fossil record tells us that climates, as well as floral and faunal assemblages, have changed many times but what impact do we have on our environment? Humans have been on the Earth a very short time, geologically speaking, however we have arguably had the most dramatic impact on our planet of any other organism alive today.
Lectures that are part of The Charleston Museum's Curator Lecture Series for the Fall of 2014 are free and open to the public.
