Charleston Fine Art Dealers’ Association Hosts its Fourteenth Charleston Fine Art Annual, November 2-4, 2012

The Charleston Fine Art Annual, Charleston’s premier fine art weekend that brings hundreds of art enthusiasts to the historic district, will take place on November 2-4, 2012. Annually hosted by the Charleston Fine Art Dealers’ Association (CFADA), the fine art event features works from over one hundred nationally renowned artists, including paintings, sculptures, glass, mixed media, photography and jewelry. The highlights of the fine art weekend are art openings at CFADA member galleries, plein air painting, print fair at the Gibbes Museum of Art, gala receptions, silent auction, and lectures. Proceeds will benefit Charleston County High Schools’ fine art programs.

This year, the Gibbes Museum of Art will present its first ever Art on Paper Fair in conjunction with the 14th Charleston Fine Art Annual. The print fair will feature dealers representing some of the CFADA galleries as well as other premier galleries of the southeast. Works for sale will include prints, watercolors, drawing, and photographs.

Friday, November 2:
5 - 8 p.m. - CFADA gallery receptions & Charleston Fine Art Annual Art Stroll
8 –10:30 p.m. - Society 1858’s Rock, Scissors, Art on Paper preview party & reception at the Gibbes, $30 advance purchase, $40 at the door

Saturday, November 3:
9 a.m. - noon - Painting in the Park in Washington Park
10 a.m. – 5 p.m. - Art on Paper Fair at the Gibbes
11 a.m. and 2 p.m. - Artist Demonstrations and Curator-led Tour of Art on Paper Fair at the Gibbes

6:30 - 8:30 p.m. – CFADA’s Buy Art! silent auction & patrons’ reception benefiting the Charleston County High Schools’ art programs, $55 in advance/$65 day of event.

Sunday, November 4:
1–5 p.m. - Art on Paper Fair at the Gibbes

2:30 p.m. - Curator-led Tour of Art on Paper Fair at the Gibbes


The fine art weekend kicks off on Friday evening with the Charleston Fine Art Annual Art Stroll. Attendees will enjoy special art openings at the CFADA member galleries. Artist receptions start at 5:00pm on Friday, November 2, 2012. This art stroll is free and open to the public.

The highlight of the fine art weekend is the Painting in the Park which features some of the most celebrated local and visiting artists, including West Fraser, Lese Corrigan, Susan Romaine, Shannon Smith, Jennifer Smith-Rogers, Karen Larson Turner, Mark Bailey, Curt Butler, Laurie Meyer, Craig Nelson, Karen Weihs, Rhett Thurman, Trey Finney, Mark Kelvin Horton, Chris Groves, Nancy Hoerter, Elizabeth Pollie, Shannon Runquist, Marty Whaley Adams, Nancy Pellatt, Katrina McDowell, Billy Odonnell, Donald Demers, Larry Wheeler, Mary Erickson, Arnold Damaratis, Simon Kenevan, Fred Jamar and Robert Lange.

CFADA artists will gather at Washington Park for a plein air session on Saturday morning, November 3, starting at 9:00 a.m. The wet paintings from the park will be sold to benefit the Charleston County High Schools’ art programs. The Painting in the Park ends at noon.

The Ninth Annual High School Art Competition, an outdoor juried exhibition of outstanding student works from eleven local high schools, is held in conjunction with the Painting in the Park. The student art works will be on display from 9 a.m. and judged by a panel of celebrity judges. The winners will be announced at 11:30 a.m.

Buy Art! silent auction & patrons’ reception will give everyone a chance to bid on wet paintings from the park, mingle with their favorite artists and support CFADA’s mission. The evening starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Gibbes Museum of Art. The silent auction ends at 8:00 p.m. and the event ends at 8:30 p.m.

Tickets for the silent auction & patrons’ reception are $55 per person in advance and $65 day of event. The Gibbes is located at 135 Meeting Street in downtown Charleston, SC.

Admission to the Art on Paper Fair will be free on Saturday and Sunday, during museum hours (10- 5pm Saturday and 1pm – 5pm Sunday). On Friday, November 2, the museum’s young patron auxiliary group, Society 1858, will host an opening night preview reception for the Fair at the museum. The party, titled Rock, Scissors, Art on Paper, will be held at the Gibbes from 8 – 10:30pm, following the Charleston Fine Art Annual Art Stroll. Tickets to the event are $30 in advance, $40 at the door.
