To observe Black History Month, Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum will host a symposium on the effects of the Vietnam War on the African-American community of Liberty Hill in North Charleston, S.C.
The symposium will feature Henry Darby, author of the book "Liberty Hill's Vietnam Fighting Men." The book chronicles eight African Americans from Liberty Hill who were killed in the Vietnam War and other veterans’ perspectives. A large number of the young men from Liberty Hill who fought in Vietnam paid the ultimate price at a time when many chose military service as a way to escape civil rights struggles.
Admission to the museum will be free to symposium attendees from 10-11:30 a.m.
Parking is $5.
