This year marks the 70th anniversary of the month-long Battle of Iwo Jima that ended in March 1945. The iconic photo of the U.S. Marines raising the flag at Iwo Jima remains one of the most remembered images of World War II. We will discuss this important battle and the impact it had on the American and allied victory in World War II. The only surviving Medal of Honor recipient from Iwo Jima, Herschel Williams, will be with us to discuss his memories of the battle. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet Mr. Williams and other WWII veterans.
All of the symposiums, which are produced by the Patriots Point Institute of History, Science, and Technology, are free to the public. We anticipate that seats for these events will fill fast, so come early. All symposiums are held on the historic aircraft carrier USS Yorktown. Please come and meet these heroes.
