Art of Design Spring Luncheon and Lecture With Carolyne Roehm

The Women’s Council of the Gibbes Museum of Art presents Art of Design, a benefit for the museum on Friday, March 30, 2012. Renowned designer and tastemaker Carolyne Roehm will be the featured presenter at the museum’s annual spring luncheon. Ms. Roehm will share her knowledge, enthusiasm, and extraordinary experiences that define the quintessential “Roehm style” at a noon luncheon in the Gibbes’ majestic courtyard. The tented gathering will be designed by Tara Guérard Soirée as a tribute to Ms. Roehm. The luncheon, catered by Caroline’s Market and Catering, will feature a menu and palette also inspired by Ms. Roehm.

Carolyne Roehm’s design career started in the fashion world where she worked for Oscar de La Renta for ten years. In 1985, she branched out to form her own fashion house, Carolyne Roehm Inc., but her passion did not end with clothing. She extended her influence by delving into flowers and entertaining, as well as garden, interior, and product design. A prolific author, Ms. Roehm has written numerous books and regularly contributes to national design magazines. Her late friend, Bill Blass, called Ms. Roehm, “the ultimate tastemaker.” Ms. Roehm will share insights from her multi-faceted career at the luncheon and will sign copies of her books following the lecture.

“Carolyne Roehm exemplifies the pinnacle of design and taste in America. We are deeply grateful to the Women’s Council and everyone involved in helping the Gibbes present such a dynamic program in Charleston,” said Angela Mack, Executive Director of the Gibbes Museum of Art.
