"Run for the 9" Memorial 5k

Charleston Fire Department suffered a tragic loss on June 18th, 2007 when 9 brave firefighters perished while battling a blazing warehouse. In response, the Charleston Firefighters Association will be holding a memorial 5k run in their honor. Please join us in remebering these fine firefighters on June14th at Palmetto Islands County Park in Mt. Pleasant.
THE RUN:
The run will take place in beautiful Palmetto Islands County Park in Mt. Pleasant, SC. The track will cover tarmac, trails and boardwalks taking you through scenic marshes and spectacular natural corridores. Once inside the park, you will be directed to Big Oak Shelter where check in will be held and the band "Not So Serious" will be playing. Please plan to check in before 8:45am, as the race will start at 9am. Walkers are welcome.
The starting line will be in a large green meadow where you will also find sponsor booths, and a fire truck. This is a family event where kids are welcome and children under 12 are free. For an additional fee there is also a Splash Island Water Park for the family to enjoy. Come out and support your local firefighters, and we hope to see you at the starting line!
REGISTRATION:
You can register online at www.local61.com and clicking on the red "LINKS" button on the left of the page, or www.active.com and typing "run for the 9" into the event search bar to the right of the page.
COST:
$20 preregistration, and $25 week-of. (Please remember that each participant will be charged $1 for entry into the park.)
EXTRAS:
Particpants will recieve a "Run for the 9" t-shirt. There will be a band, fire truck, and firefighter race car at the event. Refreshments will be available to participants as well. There will be restrooms and parking available.
TIMES:
The park opens at 7am. Registration will begin at 8am, and the race begins at 9am.
KIDS:
Under 12 get in free, and for an additional fee the park has a brand new Splash Island Water Park.
