The fifth annual Lowcountry Jazz Festival will kick off Labor Day weekend this year with a hot tribute to horns, performed by a new collaboration of popular smooth jazz veterans.
Saxophonists Dave Koz, Richard Elliot, Gerald Albright and Mindi Abair will take the stage with their own arrangements of smash hits made famous by the horns bands of the 70s: Earth, Wind & Fire; Blood, Sweat & Tears; Chicago and others.
The heat will continue the second day of the festival when guitarist Stanley Clarke and keyboardist George Duke try to out duel each other on stage.
The festival will conclude with the cool pairing of jazz pianist Joe Sample and vocalist Randy Crawford.
The festival, named a Top 20 Event by the Southeast Tourism Society, draws thousands of jazz fans to Charleston and raises funds to benefit Closing the Gap in Health Care, Inc., an organization whose mission is to decrease health disparities among the under-served.
