2nd Annual Charleston Pirate Festival

The Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon, the Friends of the Old Exchange and the Charleston Maritime Center are pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Charleston Pirate Festival. This is a free family event held on the grounds of the Maritime Center on August 10, 2014 from 11 AM until 3 PM.
The Charleston Pirate festival recalls the “Golden Age of Piracy.” This event features pirate themed activities for families, children and history buffs alike. Colonial and maritime history booths will be set-up by Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon, The Powder Magazine, Colonial Dorchester State Historic Site, Charles Town Landing, The Gibbes Museum of Art, The Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry, The United States Coast Guard, The Friends of the Hunley, Caw Caw County Park, The SC Aquarium, SC Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, and the Walled City Task Force.
Other exhibits will offer visitors a chance to learn about the contributions of black pirates, the art of colonial cooking and even a chance to meet and greet pirates such as Blackbeard, Stede Bonnet, Mary Read, Anne Bonny, and Grace O’Malley. Lectures and programs will be running throughout the day of the festival.
