Boone Hall Plantation will celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Assault on Battery Wagner by presenting a reenactment November 9-10.
The attack to capture Battery Wagner located on Morris Island took place on July 18, 1863. This was the second attempt to capture the fort by Union forces, but this battle is better known due to the fact that the attack was led by the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, one of the first major American military units made up of black soldiers.
This weekend's battle reenactment serves to remind visitors about this time in history and to honor the lives lost. Proceeds from this weekend go to historic flag preservation efforts and other projects initiated by the Confederate Heritage Trust.
