This event will be an unforgettable night with dancing along the harbor, impressive live auction items and sumptuous food sure to please any palate. A signature of this event is the extravagant auction items that include exotic island retreats, fine art, jewelry, dining, custom ship models and additional priceless opportunities. This black-tie event will be held at the Union Pier Passenger Terminal at 7 p.m., Saturday, October 10, 2009. The Spirit Ball is a nautically festive, fun and philanthropic evening. Guests will be treated to a cocktail hour with a silent auction followed by a seated gourmet dinner with fine wine, live auction, open bar, dancing and live music as the 140-foot Spirit of South Carolina is a glow in the harbor. Auction items include luxurious vacations, such as a weeks stay at a beachfront home in Elbow Cay, Bahamas, sleeping up to 14; a week escape to a waterfront Jamaican villa atop the prestigious Round Hill with a staff of six; five-nights stay at Key West's only 5-star resort; and five-nights stay in a luxurious gated community on Snowshoe Mountain with fantastic views, amenities and adventures. Offering more personal touches are a weekend stay with Teddy and Blair Turner on a private 5,000-acre barrier island; and steak supper for six with Ben Moise on the world famous Moise Island with classic yacht transport. Other items to bid on are world class handcrafted ship models by famed artisan Tom Boozer. In particular, his model the USS Decatur is constructed from resawed heartpine from a Hugo-damaged building. Rick Reinert's original oil painting, Night of the Tall Ships; gourmet dining experiences; jewelry; private sails on the Spirit of South Carolina; hunting trips; shopping sprees; sailing lessons; and an aerobatic flight are a few others.
