Visitors can now experience the beauty and history of Middleton Place, after hours. Beginning this week, the new “Evenings at Middleton Place” tours will be offered on Thursday and Saturday evenings, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Led by professional interpreters, the two-hour comprehensive experience includes tours of the Middleton Place House Museum, the Plantation Stableyards and the Gardens. The journey begins in the House Museum, where guests will become acquainted with the people who made Middleton Place their home for over two centuries. A trip to the Plantation Stableyards and Eliza’s House will introduce participants to the African American slaves and freed men who tended the working plantation in the 18th and 19th centuries. The evening concludes with a walk in the Gardens at twilight, focusing on the history and horticulture of America’s oldest landscaped garden.

Tour groups are limited to 14 people. Tickets are $55 per person and are only available on-line at www.middletonplace.org. Tickets must be purchased 24 hours in advance of the tour departure time. Following the tour, participants are invited to the Middleton Place Restaurant for a complimentary glass of wine in the courtyard or Tavern Room. Participants planning to stay for dinner can make reservations by calling 843-266-7477.
