From centuries old live oak trees to stunning architectural details, each property is a study in meticulous restoration, beauty and grandeur.
HISTORY
On 14 stunning acres on the Ashley River stands a National Historic Landmark - and the last great waterfront estate. This is Lowndes Grove. The property’s first recorded owner, Richard Cartwright, acquired the property in 1701 through a land grant by King Charles. Then, the idyllic property boasted 170 acres and spanned the entire peninsula. Through seasons and years, from mid-18th century roots, its asparagus fields and secret tunnel to a Revolutionary War invasion, to the Charleston World’s Fair and a visit by President Theodore Roosevelt, Lowndes Grove has attracted generations of explorers, naturalists, dignitaries, celebrities, families and romantics of all ages to its grove of live oaks and of course, the river.
LANDMARK
Named for the father of the Southern Railroad and one of Charleston’s most prominent families, The William Aiken House is a seamless blend of 18th century style and 21st century sophistication. With an architectural history that spans several periods, a museum-caliber arts and antique collection, The House is a Charleston treasure as well as a National Historic Landmark. Purchased by Patrick Properties in 2000, The William Aiken House underwent a painstaking 18-month renovation during which local artisans amd master designers restored the home into breathtaking event space with elegant gardens.
GLAMOUR
Opened in 1942 as Charleston’s premiere movie house and named in honor of the servicemen and women of the United States, The American Theater’s roots are Art-Deco architecture and Hollywood glamour. At the time of this National Historic Landmark’s construction, air conditioning was not installed due to government war restrictions, however, it was comfortably ventilated by powerful fans. The opening movie was “Joan of Ozark” staring Judy Canova, Eddie Foy, Jr., Joe E. Brown and Jerome Cowan. Remodeled in 1947, the Theater closed in 1977 due to declining attendance and was purchased in 1997 by Patrick Properties. A meticulous renovation returned the historic treasure into one of the city’s most stylish event venues.
CAFÉ
Fish Restaurant resides in a beautifully renovated, 1837 Charleston single-style home in Charleston’s Upper King Design District. Originally a German bakery with a family residence on the second floor, the space was purchased by Patrick Properties in 1998. Then, the space had three walls and a demolition permit. An extensive renovation turned the space into what is now home to Charleston’s freshest, friendliest neighborhood café.
