Charleston Board Game a Win for Lowcountry Kids
For Immediate Release, December 2006
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Those who purchase the new Charleston Chase board game, available at Coastal Classics, 511 King St. in Charleston, S.C., will now be supporting Lowcountry kids in addition to having fun this holiday season. The creators of Charleston Chase have announced they will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sales of the game to Carolina Children’s Charity.
Charleston Chase, created by Cathy Spencer and hand-painted by local artist Cindy Saadeh and printed on washable fabric, sends players on a journey through Charleston, S.C., as they try to be the first to make it from the plantations of West Ashley through downtown to the ocean by Sullivan’s Island. Players may find themselves strawberry picking at Boone Hall, shrimping at Shem Creek and even getting bitten by a crab. Charleston Chase is available only at Coastal Classics, a high-end furniture store in the King Street design district, and retails for $25.
“The game has been so well received by the Charleston community that we wanted to say thank you and in turn give back to the Charleston area in a meaningful way,” says Cathy Spencer, owner of Coastal Classics. “As the mother of two, I'm pleased that Coastal Classics' donations to Carolina Children's Charity will go directly towards helping families with children who have special needs.”
The Carolina Children’s Charity, founded by Charleston-area volunteers, assists families of Lowcountry children with birth defects and childhood diseases with their children’s medical expenses. Since its founding in 1987, the organization has provided assistance to thousands of Lowcountry children with birth defects or other disabling diseases, such as asthma, cerebral palsy, juvenile diabetes and cancer, in services totaling $2.42 million.
