Interactive Exhibit Premiers on Constitution Day at Charles Pinckney National Historic Site

For Immediate Release, August 2007

A new interactive exhibit will be unveiled at Charles Pinckney National Historic Site on Constitution Day, Monday, September 17th in conjunction with the annual naturalization ceremony.

“The result of a partnership between the League of Women Voters, the National Park Service and the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, this display will be a great addition to our educational exhibits,” said Superintendent Bob Dodson. The new kiosk connects visitors via the Internet to the Constitution Center’s online exhibit: Centuries of Citizenship: A Constitutional Timeline. This online experience highlights many of the key dates and events that mark more than 200 years of constitutional history. The timeline can be explored from home at: http://www.constitutioncenter.org/timeline

“The park is indebted to the Charleston area League for pursuing the funds that made this possible. Their vision and efforts resulted in a $1,000 grant from the League of Women Voters Education Fund and the Program on Constitutional and Legal Policy of the Open Society. The grant will make this online exhibit a permanent part of our displays,” Dodson continued.

Charles Pinckney National Historic Site is located at 1254 Long Point Road in Mount Pleasant. Open daily from 9:00-5:00, the park preserves the last 28 acres of Snee Farm, a plantation that was once owned by Charles Pinckney, a principal framer and signer of the U.S. Constitution. For more information or group reservations, please call the park at (843) 881-5516.
