CBT's Jill Eathorne Bahr appointed as panelist on the National Endowment for the Arts Dance Panel
For Immediate Release, April 2010Charleston Ballet Theatre’s Resident Choreographer Jill Eathorne Bahr has been appointed with the unique honor of serving on the Dance Panel for the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, D.C.. Ms. Bahr was selected for this position upon recommendation from Doug Sonntag, Staff Head of the Dance Panel for the NEA based on her national reputation as a respected choreographer and dance advocate.
The National Endowment for the Art was established in 1965 as an independent agency of the federal government, and is the nation’s largest annual funder of the arts. The agency’s mission is, ‘To support excellence in the arts - both new and established - bring the arts to all Americans, and provide leadership in arts education.”
As a member of this small and distinguished panel of artists and administrators from around the country, Ms. Bahr will travel to Washington, D.C. in June for a week filled with daily reviews of applications from hundreds of arts groups throughout the nation. The panel will be tasked with reviewing and recommending applications from dance centric projects and companies from all over the United States, requesting funding for their projects and ideas. These selected recommendations will then be presented to the National Council on the Arts who will select the finalist to be presented to the agency Chairman, Rocco Landesman, for final approval.
Ms. Bahr is the recipient of the Elizabeth Verner Award - the highest honor in the state of SC for artistic excellence, a two time winner of the South Carolina Arts Commission’s Choreography Fellowship, has twice been awarded the NEA Choreography Fellowship, is two time winner of the William Habich Choreography Award, and four time winner of the Monticello Choreography Award. Ms. Bahr’s choreography can be seen in some of the nation’s most prominent ballet companies. Jill has been Resident Choreographer of the Charleston Ballet Theatre since its inception as a professional dance company in 1987.
