“CHARLESTON PHOTO TOURS” A NEW WALKING TOUR
For Immediate Release, February 2007http://www.charlestonphototours.com
Charleston Photo Tours is a two hour walking tour that provides scintillating historical facts while showing you where to take excellent photographs and the best way to capture the mood and beauty of Charleston’s charming surroundings.
You know what it’s like to arrive in a town where you have never been. You know what you want to see, but you don’t know how to get there. Charleston Photo Tours will take you there as part of a unique experience. Stroll along cobblestone streets and alleyways to discover magnificent mansions, hidden gardens, public buildings, churches and graveyards. Go where busses and carriages aren’t allowed. A professional photographer shows you the best angles and settings on your camera to assure you have a photograph to brag about. “This is a first for Charleston” says owner Joyce Aungst. There is no other tour company in Charleston that will provide pertinent history while attending to the aesthetic desire to capture it.” Joyce said “It hurt my neck to watch tourists straining off the sides of moving horse drawn buggies to take a photograph. I decided to start this company to fill an obvious need after seeing all the tourists walking around with their cameras looking for shots.“
Joyce is a multi-faceted photographer. After ten years of international travel photography and ten years in a commercial studio, she fulfilled her dream of becoming a tour guide. “So many people have great cameras that they don’t know how to use. Many guests on my tours thank me so much for helping them overcome their fear to take their cameras off of “automatic”. They write me to tell me they have become better photographers and have developed “an eye” that they didn’t have before. They look at streetscapes very differently. Everything around them “counts”. They want to come back and go out on another route!“
Here are 5 tips Joyce recommends while composing a photograph:
• Look for foreground, subject and background
• Photograph buildings from an angle
• Wait for the sun to be behind you
• Diagonal lines create a strong visual path
• Leave those darn cars out of the photo!
Joyce says “Getting the job done means more than how you use your camera, it’s also about planning. We get the most out of our two hours than you could imagine.” Tours are available daily at 10am to enjoy the morning light and avoid the heat in summer, and again at 3pm because the colors at sunset in Charleston add a rich, warm elegance to the majesty of this great city. Custom tours, times and group discounts are available. Cameras are optional.
