Mount Pleasant Visitors Center Open For Business
For Immediate Release, July 2009
The Charleston area welcomes the new addition of the Mount Pleasant Visitors Center, now open to the public. The facility boasts a welcome center where visitors and locals alike may learn about the many options for fun, dining, shopping, attractions, recreation and more East of the Cooper and beyond. Situated on a vast park, the new Visitors Center is the only one of its kind on the East coast.
The fishing pier is the longest in the state and stretches 1,250 feet over the Cooper River in the shadow of the famed Arthur Ravenel, Jr. Bridge. A snack and tackle shop are open to welcome those wanting a bite to eat or looking to catch the big one. Additional park features include a waterfront playground for children, ample restroom facilities, convenient parking options, a kayak launching area, an amphitheater that overlooks the river and Charleston skyline, the Sweetgrass Cultural Arts Pavilion and the Cooper River Room, which is available for private parties and receptions. www.cooperriverroom.com
The nine-acre property will be open to the public year-round from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. A War Memorial is prominently displayed on the premises.
“A location as historic and fascinating as the Town of Mount Pleasant deserves a Visitors Center that reflects its storied past and bright future,” says Mayor Pro Tem, Kruger Smith, for whom the building is named. “Generations of visitors will visit this spot and know that they have found themselves in a unique and special place.”
