What better way to celebrate the July 4th holiday than by visiting the home of Arthur Middleton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence? Visitors to Middleton Place National Historic Landmark on Saturday, July 4 and Sunday, July 5 will see the American Revolution come to life.
Throughout the weekend, visitors can interact with war reeanactors from the Second South Carolina Regiment and visit their encampment in the Plantation Stableyards. Included in the many activities are military tactical demonstrations on the Greensward, cooking and camp-life demonstrations, and special House Museum tours focusing on Arthur Middleton and the American Revolution.
A formal wreath-laying by the Daughters of the American Revolution and salute at the tomb of Arthur Middleton will take place at noon on Saturday, and on Sunday at noon, the Regiment will march to the Middleton Inn for a wreath-laying ceremony and salute to the 200 American soldiers who died there during the American Revolution. At 3:00 pm both days, visitors can hear formal readings of the Declaration of Independence.
Most Fourth of July weekend activities are complimentary with regular admission: $25 adults. A special summer promotion (June, July, & August) allows children, ages 7-15, free admission with a paid adult. Purchase tickets on-line and save $5 on each adult admission. House tours are $10.
