Kid Tours- Museum Monkeys

Go ape at the Charleston Museum and see monkeys from our collection. Kid Tours is a series designed to highlight artifacts from our collection that have fascinated children for years. Kid Tours- Walk This Way!

See shoes from around the world and throughout history with a special tour of our exhibit History in Every Step featuring sandals, boots, walking canes, and more. Kid Tours is a series designed to highlight artifacts from our collection that have fascinated children for years. Kid Tours meet every Wednesday in June and July at 3:30 p.m. and include a craft project or activity. FREE for Museum members and FREE with admission ($10/adults, $5/children, under 3 free).



Yoga: Hands on History Workshop

June 12

3-4:30 p.m.

Enjoy learning stretches and postures of this ancient exercise that developed in India. Staff from Jivamukti Yoga Charleston will be here to instruct children ages 5 and up on yoga basics. Program includes tour of our Kidstory exhibit on India. This workshop is part of a new series where children can get their hands on history. Each workshop features a local artisan and a specialized tour of Museum collections.

Pirates of Charleston-Family Fun Event

June 14

10 a.m.- 12 p.m.

Ahoy Maties! Sign your pirate code of conduct, make a pirate hat, and more. Search the Museum for buried treasure and hear tales of pirates in Charleston. Every month The Charleston Museum offers a special Saturday program dedicated to providing an educational as well as exciting experience for the whole family. Join us each month for a different themed event including presentations and craft projects for children of all ages. These events are FREE for Museum members and FREE with admission ($10/adults, $5/children, under 3 FREE).

Kid Tours- Boats

June 18

3:30 p.m.

What floats your boat? Make your own small boat as you look at our collection of models including a side-wheeler and shrimp boats. Kid Tours is a series designed to highlight artifacts from our collection that have fascinated children for years. Kid Tours meet every Wednesday in June and July at 3:30 p.m. and include a craft project or activity.

Clay Creations: Hands on History Workshop

June 19

3-4:30 p.m.

Daniel McSweeney of Sparks Studio will instruct this special pottery class. Each child will make clay pieces inspired by items from the Museum’s collection. Ages 5 and up. This workshop is part of a new series where children can get their hands on history. Each workshop features a local artisan and a specialized tour of Museum collections.

Learn about the Battle of Fort Sullivan, see uniforms, and make your own tricorn hat. Bugz! at Freshfields Village

4-7 p.m.

Learn about what is buzzing around you. Examine specimens from the collection of the Charleston Museum, decorate a bug box, and create a butterfly. Thursdays are Family Fiesta night at Freshfields. Freshfields is located at the crossroads of Kiawah, Seabrook, and Johns’ Island. Events are free and open to the public.

Explore mounts and skeletons from the Indian peninsula such as our leopard mount and more. The invention of the bicycle encouraged a change in clothing styles for women and much more. Investigate clothing, equipment, and other artifacts with our new exhibit- Bustles, Bicycles, and Ballgowns. High Flying Fun at Freshfields Village

4-7 p.m.

Hear the history of Frisbees and boomerangs and decorate your own to participate in some high flying fun! Thursdays are Family Fiesta night at Freshfields. Freshfields is located at the crossroads of Kiawah, Seabrook, and Johns’ Island. Events are free and open to the public.





History Girl Party- 1934

July 12

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Bring history to life by participating in crafts and activities relating to life in the 1930s. Learn how a young girl would have persevered during the Great Depression. Girls are welcome to bring their dolls or dress up. $10/Museum Members, $12/Nonmembers, price includes one adult. Reservations are required.

Gem Mining with Diamond Del: Hands on History Workshop

2:30-4 p.m.

Each child will enter the mobile gem mine where they will search for gems and minerals in flumes filled with flowing water. Children will learn about gem and mineral classification and take home a rock collection. This workshop is part of a new series where children can get their hands on history. Each workshop features a local artisan and a specialized tour of Museum collections.

A Country Fair at The Charleston Museum

July 19

10 a.m.- 1 p.m.

Bring the family and recall the simple pleasures of an old-fashioned country fair with a modern twist. Sam’s Path Petting Zoo will be here with camel rides, a monkey, a mini donkey and mini horses, a llama, and more. Create fun crafts to take home and get close with exotic birds from The Charleston Bird Club. Take a break from the beach and come join the summertime fun! Every month The Charleston Museum offers a special Saturday program dedicated to providing an educational as well as exciting experience for the whole family. The Charleston Museum Summer Camp-Ages 7-11

July 21-25

Enjoy a week of summer camp exploring the collection of The Charleston Museum. Children will travel back in time with crafts and activities as they learn about Ancient Egypt, dinosaurs, pirates, and more. Price includes crafts, activities, admission, and a snack. Camp meets 9 a.m.-12 p.m. each day and is for ages 7-11. Reservations are required.

$100/Members, $120/Non-members



Kid Tours- Into India

3:30 p.m.

Go into India by exploring items in our latest Kidstory exhibit. The Indian Subcontinent exhibit includes a painted fan, an alabaster Buddha, carved elephant, and even children’s clothing. Island Creatures at Freshfields Village

4-7 p.m.

Did you know the shells you find on the beach are all remains of animals? Observe sea-life specimens from the collection of the Charleston Museum and create your own jellyfish to take home. Thursdays are Family Fiesta night at Freshfields. Freshfields is located at the crossroads of Kiawah, Seabrook, and Johns’ Island. Events are free and open to the public.

Doll Daze: Hands on History Workshop

July 31

3-4:30 p.m.

Guest artisan Millie Chaplin will teach children how to make a doll using cornhusks and other materials. Then participants will explore dolls from the Museum’s collection. This workshop is part of a new series where children can get their hands on history. Each workshop features a local artisan and a specialized tour of Museum collections.

10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Experience cultures from around the world at The Charleston Museum. Witness dance moves and play games from different cultures. Try international foods and participate in crafts.
