Tides Folly Beach Bellman, Jay Vaughan receives Charleston’s CVB Charlestonly Ambassadors Award
For Immediate Release, February 2012
It’s no wonder why Charleston, South Carolina was voted "Top City in the United States" in the 2011 Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards when people like Tides Bellman, Jay Vaughan, are representing our city.
Vaughan was awarded the Charleston Area’s Charlestonly Ambassadors Award presented by the CVB Tuesday night. The CACVB created the Charlestonly Ambassadors award to honor the frontline folks who take pride in providing a customer service experience that is second to none. Recognizing the untold heroes working in our hospitality community as way of saying Thanks Y’all for helping the Charleston area put its best face forward everyday.
When asked to describe Jay Vaughan, Sarah Irving, Tides Director of Rooms, said she could go on for hours about stories of him going above and beyond. Vaughan has been known for stocking extra shirts in his car so he can give them to people walking through the lobby without a shirt to spending twenty-five minutes helping someone look for a parking spot only to refuse the tip.
“One time I watched him take off his belt in the middle of the lobby to give to a groomsman that was having a wardrobe malfunction shortly before his brothers beach wedding,” shares Irving.
Vaughan has gone grocery shopping for Tides guests, picked up their prescriptions, and driven guests to concerts and then back at midnight to pick them up because he hates to see them pay a cab!
But his stories of going beyond the call of duty don’t stop there. It was this past New Year’s Eve that made Jay Vaughan’s actions speak louder than ever. After working a 15+ hour shift preparing the hotel for their annual New Years Eve Beach Bash, Vaughan encountered a couple from Mount Pleasant stranded with no ride home. Vaughan personally drove the couple to their home 45 minutes away and then drove back to his residence in West Ashley..
It is the men and women like Jay Vaughan who truly make a difference in our community. If you haven’t met Jay yet, swing into the Tides Folly Beach and congratulate our own Charlestonly Ambassador!
