Locally Owned Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q Featured at the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party
For Immediate Release, June 2010This year, eighteen of the nation’s most respected barbecue restaurants and pitmasters have been invited to showcase their talents and traditions on a world stage in New York City at the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party. Featured in this very select group is locally owned Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q which has been selected to participate for the second year in a row.
The Big Apple Barbecue Block Party will be held June 12-13 and is expected to attract more than 120,000 barbecue aficionados to New York’s Madison Square Park. Jim ‘N Nick’s will showcase their smoked pork hot links paired with another icon of the Southern picnic -- fresh-made pimento cheese.
While Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q is quickly becoming nationally known, it remains locally owned. Jim ‘N Nick’s, began as a father and son restaurant in Birmingham, Alabama, twenty-five years ago and has stayed true to its roots as a family-owned company. It is locally owned by John Haire in Charleston, SC. John greets this community daily to share his passion for authentic, slow-smoked barbecue and scratch-made Southern goodness. “Being locally owned allows us to be much more involved in our community and much more in touch with our guests.” Says John, “The fact that we have been invited to be a part of this very select group for the second year in a row is a real honor for us, but most importantly, we owe a big thank you to our local guests who have helped spread the word and build our reputation to the point that we were one of only eighteen bar-b-q places invited to this national event.”
New York City’s best-smelling event of the season lies in the practiced hands of the country’s most distinguished pitmasters who wield hickory and fire to craft their legendary flavors and share the South’s smokiest secrets. Jim ‘N Nick’s will be represented by Drew Robinson. A graduate of New England Culinary Institute and executive chef, Drew’s career has taken him coast to coast, but his heart has always called him to the food traditions of the South. “When it comes to our food we are absolute purists. Nothing is frozen. Everything is scratch-made. To us, the extra effort is our way of paying respect to the traditions of the South and showing respect to our guests who have come to appreciate more.” Says Drew, “To be able to represent John Haire and all the passionate people from Jim ‘N Nick’s and to, once again, spread the love of our truly Southern sausage and pimento cheese with the world is a great honor.”
To celebrate the South’s most authentic culinary traditions, friends and neighbors can join Jim ‘N Nick’s for the Block Party in New York City or stop by locally and sample Jim ‘N Nick’s signature smoked pork hot links which are available every day downtown on King Street, in North Charleston near the Tanger Outlets and in Bluffton, South Carolina.
