The Charleston area earned five nods from the World’s Best Awards, a ranking of the top hotels, destinations, airlines, cruises, outfitters and transportation companies as decided by the readers of Travel + Leisure magazine. The results are featured in the August issue and currently appear on travelandleisure.com.
Known for its mannerly people, multiple James Beard Foundation award-winning chefs, world-class golf and historic attractions, Charleston earns recognition as the third Best City in the United States and Canada. In addition to the Best City ranking, four area properties receive mention in the accommodations categories.
• Woodlands Resort & Inn takes the 2nd spot on the Top 5 Inns in US/Canada (Fewer than 40 rooms) list.
• Planters Inn earns the 6th spot on the Top 10 Small City Hotels in US/Canada (Fewer than 100 rooms) list.
• Charleston Place makes a significant jump to number 12—from the 22nd spot last year—in the ranking of Top 50 Large City Hotels in US/Canada (100 rooms or more).
• The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort lands at the 17th spot on the Top 50 Resorts in US/Canada list.
“It is an honor for our city to be held in such esteem by the savvy readers of Travel + Leisure,” says Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Helen Hill. “To have four hotels highlighted on the lists is a special thrill and a great reminder of the world class accommodations found throughout the Charleston area.”
