BB&T Charleston Wine + Food Festival Announces Louie's Kids and Slow Charleston As Their Signature Charities for 2010

For Immediate Release, September 2009

The fifth anniversary BB&T Charleston Wine + Food Festival, scheduled for March 4-7, 2010, announces that local community based organizations Louie’s Kids and Slow Food Charleston will be the signature charities this year. 2010 Festival supporters and guests lend a hand in raising proceeds that directly benefit both of these organizations.

The Festival has already begun raising money for these organizations at last week’s annual Launch + Benefit Party at Charles Towne Landing’s Founder’s Hall. An estimated $3,000 was raised at the event and will be donated directly to the organizations. Throughout the year, the Festival will continue to raise money through ticket sales, donations and silent auctions at signature events during the Festival weekend.

“This year the signature charity process was open to local non-profits through an application process and we received requests from some great organizations,” said Angel Postell, Executive Director. “We are excited to have chosen two organizations that are doing so much for the Charleston community.” Last year the Festival raised an estimated $77,500 for their charities and scholarships combined.

LOUIE'S KIDS is a tax-exempt, nonprofit organization that raises funds to help treat childhood obesity. Slow Food Charleston advocates for a food system that is based on the principles of high quality and taste, environmental sustainability, and social justice.
