Office of Cultural Affairs Spotlights Collaborative Artists at City Gallery

11/20/2009 - 01/03/2010

Phone: 843-958-6484

The City Gallery at Waterfront Park will showcase works by two South Carolina artists from Nov. 20, 2009 to Jan. 3, 2010 in an exhibit entitled Aesthetic Sanctuary. Michael Krajewski and Justice Littlejohn have joined together to create pieces that work together synergistically and in harmony, doing more than just “meeting in the middle” to create their collaborative pieces. They have been “collabin,” as said by Littlejohn, for more than two years. Their distinct style has been referred to as “organized chaos” leaving their collaboration a marriage of innovation and the unexplainable. Krajewski and Littlejohn will also display solo works alongside their jointly inspired pieces.

Michael Krajewski is a self taught artist of Chinese and Polish heritage. Through his art, Krajewski seeks to portray and evoke strong emotions which mirror passions in his own life. He is in favor of the words “radical evolution” when speaking of his work. He says, “My work is about sharing intimacy and being spontaneous at times.” Krajewski can be inspired by almost anything; the bubbles on a shower curtain, the idea of a body in motion, a sound, dried paint on his hands, his dreams or nightmares, the interaction with what is around him, taking it in and reinventing it. Krajewski currently resides in Columbia, S.C.

Justice Littlejohn is a graduate of Wofford College with a MAT in art education from USC. He has also studied at Western Carolina University’s intensive summer MFA program with a number of national artists. He has taught in Columbia, S.C., public schools, and his work has been exhibited in galleries there as well as Atlanta, Charleston, Asheville and New Mexico. He currently resides in Greenville, S.C. The artist describes his work as “impulsive, spontaneous, and full of energy, yet contemplative.” He gains inspiration in everything he sees and “scribbles” the world; creating works of art that go beyond the external variables he is presented with.

The public is invited to the opening reception Nov. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. Both artists will present lectures regarding their solo and collaborative pieces, time and dates to be announced.
