Southwest at Charleston International begins flying to Denver this Summer

Southwest Airlines will begin Saturday service between Charleston International Airport (CHS) and Denver International Airport (DEN) this summer. The weekly nonstop flight begins on June 11, 2016.

“Southwest has again demonstrated confidence in the Charleston market by adding Denver. It is exciting to be able to offer new destinations for Charleston-area travelers and to see growth from the incumbent carriers.” said Billy Swails, chairman of the Charleston County Aviation Authority (CCAA), which owns and operates CHS and two general aviation airports.

Southwest, which began operating at Charleston International in March 2011, currently serves Baltimore-Washington (BWI), Chicago Midway (MDW), Dallas Love Field (DAL), Houston (HOU), and Nashville (BNA) with daily service.

“We’re very excited to see the Charleston to Denver connections open up. We enjoy the service Southwest Airlines brings to Charleston and this new destination fits in nicely here,” said Paul G. Campbell Jr., CCAA executive director and CEO.

"Southwest continues to further define it's partnership with the hospitality industry," said Dan Blumenstock, chairman of the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.

“Denver is a Southwest Airlines focus city that opens a new path of connections to and from several west coast cities that are an important part of its growing western network,” he said.

Southwest’s CHS to DEN schedule beginning June 11, 2016 will be:

Depart Charleston
3:45 p.m.
Arrive Denver
5:20 p.m.
Depart Denver
10:55 a.m.
Arrive Charleston
4:15 p.m.

“Denver has quietly been an objective from the early days of Southwest Airlines’ service to Charleston. The market has grown to become the largest city pair without nonstop service,” said Helen T. Hill, chief executive officer of the Charleston Area CVB. “It is our hope, and, in fact, our belief, that the Saturday service will become daily shortly after we have proven the market’s viability to our friends at Southwest Airlines. This is our opportunity, and I fully expect the hospitality industry to respond enthusiastically.”

Southwest at CHS this year added daily service to Dallas Love Field. The Denver route is the latest in the airline’s growth in Charleston.

"We are thrilled Southwest is adding service to Charleston, representing Denver's first-ever nonstop connection to the Palmetto State," said Denver International Airport CEO Kim Day. "Not only will Denver provide Charleston-area travelers easy access to Colorado and the Rocky Mountains, but the flights will offer convenient connections on Southwest to destinations across the western U.S."

Today’s announcement included the addition of several other flights within Southwest’s system.

“We’re building bridges between cities across our network with our bags fly free* and no change fees policies, our award-winning loyalty program, and our all-Boeing 737 fleet,” said Dave Harvey, Southwest Airlines Senior Director of Network Planning and Performance. “The new nonstop routes allow for greater access to our expansive network.”
