Mobil Crowns Charleston Properties With Five Stars
For Immediate Release, January 2008
Kiawah Island Golf Resort’s The Sanctuary Hotel and Summerville’s Woodlands Resort & Inn have each earned the prestigious five-star rating in the 2008 edition of the authoritative Mobil Travel Guide.
This 5-star honor was awarded to just 41 hotels across the U.S. this year, including two properties in South Carolina - both located in the Charleston area. In order to earn the five-star designation, a property must provide an exceptionally distinctive luxury environment offering expanded amenities and consistently superlative service. Attention to detail and the anticipation of guests' every need are a hallmark of the five-star rating.
“It is an extremely high honor for the Charleston area to have two of only 41 five-star properties,” said Helen Hill, Executive Director of the Charleston Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.
The Woodlands Resort and Inn was built in 1906 and offers 19 luxurious guest rooms. This property is also home to the celebrated Woodlands Dining Room, which was also awarded five stars. The Woodlands has taken top honors for both its lodging and dining since 2006, and is the only property in South Carolina to do so. The Sanctuary Hotel opened its doors in 2004 and has since hosted a wide array of dignitaries, celebrities and sports legends. The hotel has 255 rooms including a 3,000 square foot Presidential Suite. The hotel’s spa has the distinction of being the only one in the state to garner a five-star rating, and is one of only three in the nation to earn this rare honor.
The Charleston area was also represented in the highly regarded four-star category. Charleston Place Hotel earned this designation in the accommodations category, as did its restaurant, Charleston Grill. Other restaurants earning a four-star rating were Circa 1886, Peninsula Grill and The Sanctuary Hotel’s Ocean Room.
