Drayton Hall Offers Free Admission to the Military During the Month of November
For Immediate Release, November 2007 http://www.draytonhall.org
In celebration of Veteran's Day, and to honor the many sacrifices they make to keep America safe and free, Drayton Hall offers complimentary admission to the miltary (active duty and veterans) and their immediate families during the month of November. Admission includes extensive access to the property, a professionally guided tour of the house, a 45-minute interactive program on African-American life, interpretive brochures for self-guided marsh and river walks, and entrance to the African-American cemetery.
What better way to celebrate our country's history than by visiting its national treasures? Drayton Hall is a magnificent American artifact that has survived the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, the 1886 earthquake, and hurricanes like Hugo, in near-original condition. It's the real thing. Rather than an artificial recreation of a single fixed point in time or of one brief period of grandeur, it is an authentic preservation, a living timeline showing change and continuity over the centuries.
Guests will discover the real story of Drayton Hall through professional interpreters who share stories and secrets about the house and landscape, its purpose and its people, both black and white. They can connect at their own pace through self-guided marsh and river walks, and observe preservation in progress through ongoing site projects. For an additional fee, visitors can also experience our new "Voices of Drayton Hall" Historic Landscape Tour on DVD. Produced by The History Channel, and easy to navigate with corresponding site markers, it presents fascinating archival images, family memoirs, and stories of vanished structures and rare period features. Guests can also take home a treasure from the Museum Gift Shop, which features signature work by local and regional artisans - in fact, many items from the collection were inspired by, and designed and created exclusively for, Drayton Hall.
