BB&T Charleston Food + Wine Festival Honors Lowcountry Individuals And Organizations With The Annual Culinary Legend Awards Program

The BB&T Charleston Food + Wine Festival is about more than great food and wine, and for the second year the Festival will honor three local individuals and one organization with the annual Culinary Legend Awards Program. The program honors those who have made an impact in the culinary community of Charleston, SC and have contributed significantly to Lowcountry cuisine.

Four awards will be given annually to the following:
- One High School Student currently enrolled in the tri-county area
- One College Student currently enrolled in the tri-county area
- One Individual (18+) who is a past or present resident of the tri-county area (does not need to be in the culinary field currently)
- One Organization or Group based in the tri-county area

Applications are available now and will be accepted at the BB&T Charleston Food + Wine Festival office until February 8, 2008. The process is free and open to the public and self-nomination is permitted. A 200-word essay describing the individual or organization’s contribution and a completed form must be submitted. Applications can be downloaded from the Festival’s web site, www.charlestonfoodandwine.com or be obtained by calling the Festival office at (843) 722.5566. Winners will be notified by Friday, February 15, 2008 and will be highlighted on the Festival’s web site and honored at the Opening Ceremonies on Friday, February 29, 2008 at 11AM. Opening Ceremonies are free and open to the public.

Last year’s winners include: John Taylor, “Hoppin’ John”, winner of the “Individual” category, Gayle Rawlins, winner of the “College Student” category, Emily Byrd, winner of the “High School Student” category, and American Culinary Federation-Charleston Chapter, winner of the “Organization” category of the Culinary Legend Awards.
