Join Park Ranger Donel Singleton for a special program on the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment on Saturday, July 18, 2009. The 54th spearheaded the
July 18, 1863 assault on Morris Island’s Battery Wagner and were the subject of the hit movie Glory.
This educational program is free and will take place in the Fort Moultrie Visitor Center.

“The men of the 54th are remembered for their bravery, courage, pride, determination, and impact
on American history,” said Bob Dodson, Superintendent of Fort Sumter National Monument. “As one of the frst African American regiments called to duty during the Civil War, the men of the 54th
not only fought for their country, they fought for the freedom of all enslaved African Americans and equal rights for those who were free. We continue to honor those men who risked their lives for a
cause greater than themselves.”
A unit of Fort Sumter National Monument, Fort Moultrie is located at 1214 Middle Street, Sullivan’s Island, SC 29482. The site is open daily from 9:00-5:00. The normal entrance fee of $3.00 is waived
