Kicks Off Month-Long Celebration of Women at the Gibbes Museum of Art

Charleston Chamber Opera and the Gibbes Museum of Art are partnering for an afternoon of opera on Sunday, November 1 at 3pm. The beautiful Gibbes rotunda will be the setting for Soprano Patrice Tiedemann and Mezzo Soprano Lara Wilson as they explore a vast array of female relationships in some of opera’s most beloved stories, including Madama Butterfly, Carmen, and Suor Angelica. The hour-long program will be interwoven with narration by actress Terry Bell-Aby, with piano accompaniment by musical director Steven Morris.

Tickets for “Mothers, Sisters and Adversaries” are $10 for museum members and students and $20 for non-members. Tickets can be purchased online at www.gibbesmuseum.org/events, at the Gibbes Museum Store or by calling 722-2706 x18.
“Mothers, Sisters and Adversaries” on November 1 launches a month-long celebration of women at the Gibbes Museum of Art. A Women in Art Lecture Series will be presented at the museum the first three Wednesdays evenings in November. The series will explore women in a variety of roles including artist, model, collector, and philanthropist. The Women in Art Lecture Series is being offered in partnership with the Center for Women.
