Thumbelina
Event Details
The classic Hans Christian Anderson tale takes the Sottile stage in a world premiere ballet with live chamber ensemble. Go on a thrilling adventure with the smallest of girls, Thumbelina, to distant lands with a cast of silly creatures that she meets along the way. Fitting in or finding your way is never an easy task but with some patience the answers seem to come to you. A tenderly compiled score by musical director Sandra Nikolajevs and imaginative new sets by Jack Buchanan will capture the magic of this classic story where finding your true love is always possible and where every fairy eventually gets their wings. Music by Ravel, Rota and Mozart.
Ballet Evolution brought a new artistic voice to Charleston audiences with a diverse opening season in 2015. This ground breaking arts organization continues to act as a hub for the creation of new dance works and musical compositions. The unique programming breaks boundaries in the Charleston arts scene with seamless integration of dance, live music, and story to implement a process that revives and reinvigorates a classical arts model. Audiences claim Ballet Evolution to be Charleston's newest artistic gem in a city known for its dedication to arts and culture.
