Art Forms & Theatre Concepts, Inc., the premiere African-American theatre company of the Low Country is preparing for its 2016 MOJA Arts Festival offering, “Stick Fly” an entertaining drama by Lydia R, Diamond.

“Stick Fly”, the award winning drama tells a story of the LeVay family, an affluent, African-American family as they gather at their Martha’s Vineyard home for the weekend, and brothers Kent and Flip have each brought their respective ladies home to meet the parents for the first time. Kent’s fiancée Taylor is an academic whose absent father was a prominent author, and now she struggles to fit into the LeVay's upper-crust lifestyle. Kimber, on the other hand, is a self-described WASP who works with inner-city school children, and fits in more easily with the family. Joining these two couples are the demanding LeVay patriarch Joe and Cheryl, the daughter of the family’s longtime housekeeper. As the two newcomers butt heads over issues of race and privilege, longstanding family tensions bubble under the surface and reach a boiling point when secrets are revealed.

The Ensemble under the directions of Art Gilliard, Founding Artistic Director of Art Forms & Theatre Concepts, Inc. is one of the most poignant and popular, well-crafted dramas to hit the stages in quite some time. This production is simply unforgettable.

This production also marks Art Forms’ 21st season since its founding in 1995. The production features Roy Gilliard as Dr. Joe LeVay, Domonique Henry as the eldest son Flip, Ernest Brown as the younger son Spoon, Annette Grevious as Taylor and Blaire Criste as Kimber. Candiace Rice completes the cast as the daughter of the LeVay’s Housekeeper. A very electric ensemble cast.

“Stick Fly” opens at The Historic Dock Street Theatre, 135 Church Street in downtown Charleston.
