Origin: A Culinary Evolution

Charleston Arts Festival is proud to announce a unique dinner experience, Origin: A Culinary Evolution, featuring James Beard-award winning chef Jason Stanhope. The multi-course dinner is designed around the theme of "evolution" and guests will dine as audience members to a feat of cross-genre collaboration that includes dance, poetry, music, theatre and projected arts components.

"This collaboration has really inspired me, and striving for a common vision is humbling and exciting," said Chef Jason Stanhope. "It's refreshing to push the limits of my culinary techniques and craftsmanship while doing something innovative and memorable. Being part of this team is phenomenal and I'm so honored to be surrounded by so many masters of their craft in this endeavor."

By incorporating themes of evolution into every element, the dinner will honor the fundamentals of nature in three movements; using dance, original poetry, scored musical compositions, live music, and projected visual arts. In addition to Chef Jason Stanhope, Origin: A Culinary Evolution will feature the talents of Edmund's Oast head bartender Jayce McConnell, Charleston Poet Laureate Marcus Amaker, musician Nic Jenkins, Charleston Arts Festival Director Andrew Walker, projection artist Christian Hannon, PURE Theatre Artistic Director Sharon Graci, lighting designer Todd St. Onge of Technical Event Company, set designer Lisa Thomas of Ooh! Events as well as Movement Union, a professional contemporary dance company led by Sara Sumner.

"Even though this is a dinner event, first and foremost, we knew that the best way to elevate Chef Stanhope's creativity was by complementing it with artists of all kinds," says Artistic Director Andrew Walker. "While the theme of ˜evolution" guides the evening, it's also a concept that has lent itself to our whole festival; an evolved version of the arts in Charleston. We're always looking to add more, see things through another lens, or consider what's coming next. So much of what Origin will be speaks to this idea of growth and collaboration that we hope extends beyond the festival itself."

In addition to generous collaborative artists and professionals, the evening will be sponsored by Ooh! Events, Souther Glazer's Wine & Spirits, Southern Eagle, and High-Wire Distilling Company who will provide their renowned decor and beverages respectively.
