NASA Astronaut Aboard the Yorktown

On Thursday, Feb. 23 at 11:00 a.m., two-time space traveling astronaut Christopher Cassidy will board the USS Yorktown to discuss the life and accomplishments of S.C. hero and astronaut Ron McNair during a free Patriots Point Black History Month symposium titled, “In The Spirit of Ron McNair.”

McNair, who was born and raised in Lake City, S.C. during the Civil Rights Movement, is the second African-American to travel to space. Two years after his first launch, he was killed in the 1986 space shuttle Challenger explosion.

In addition to NASA astronaut Christopher Cassidy, the symposium panel will include Ron McNair’s younger brother Eric, and Ron McNair Life Center director Clyde Bess.
