After a popular debut last year, Charleston County Parks’ Hops and Vines event series returns to beautiful McLeod Plantation Historic Site in May 2018.

The special event, held on May 10 and May 24 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., will feature live music, beer, wine and a food truck, in the gorgeous setting of this historic site.

Hops and Vines will feature live music from Dave Landeo and food from the Dashi Food Truck on Thursday, May 10. The event returns on May 24 with music from Emily Curtis and the Braised in the South food truck, which was winner of the 2017 Food Network show “Great Food Truck Race.”

Interpreters will be on site to illustrate the storied history of McLeod Plantation. Guests are encouraged to arrive by 5:15 p.m. for a complimentary tour of the plantation site’s grounds. The main house and gift shop will not be open during the event. Interpreters will also be on site during the event to answer questions.

Admission is $15 in advance, or $20 on site (space permitting) and includes two drink tickets. Extra drink tickets and food truck fare are available for an additional fee. Space is limited and this event is expected to sell out, so advance registration is recommended. Tickets can be purchased at CharlestonCountyParks.com. Dogs are not be permitted at McLeod Plantation Historic Site.

Located on James Island and owned and operated by the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC), McLeod Plantation Historic Site is a former sea island cotton plantation that has borne witness to some of the most significant periods of Charleston history. Established in 1851, McLeod Plantation is an important 37-acre Gullah/Geechee heritage site that has been carefully preserved in recognition of its cultural and historical significance. The grounds include a riverside outdoor pavilion, a sweeping oak allée, and the McLeod Oak, which is thought to be more than 600 years old. The site’s buildings include homes that make up Transition Row, where enslaved families and their free descendants lived during the 19th and 20th centuries. McLeod Plantation Historic Site is open for regular visitation every Tuesday through Sunday.

CCPRC also hosts the event Wine Down Wednesday at Old Towne Creek County Park in West Ashley on March 21, April 4, April 18 and May 2. Wine Down Wednesday also features wine, live music and food trucks.
