Pedestrians will again be able to walk King Street with another closing of the unique street to all vehicular traffic on Sunday, December 12. The event, Second Sunday on King Street, will make King Street pedestrian-only from Broad Street to Calhoun, 1:00-6:00 PM on the Second Sunday of December . (The street will be closed beginning at 12:00 for set up.)
King Street shops display their products outdoors and restaurants can offer table service in the street. Restaurants with Sunday permits can serve adult beverages to seated patrons outdoors. The first event was held in May.
In order to accommodate special events at the Sottile Theater and Memminger Auditorium, George Street, Wentworth Street and Market Street will be open to vehicular traffic for the participants at these locations.
Police officers will be stationed at each intersection to facilitate the pedestrians on King Street as they cross these intersections.
“This will be a great opportunity to stroll and take your time visiting with friends, shopping and dining; to celebrate our most unique, urban public place and examine our distinctive collection of retail shops and restaurants, ” said Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr.
