Charleston artist, Brian Coleman, solo exhibit "Sitting Underwater"

The George Gallery, located at 50 Bogard St., is hosting a reception for the opening of Charleston painter Brian Coleman’s solo exhibit of new works on Friday, September 16 from 5-8pm. The exhibit will be on view at the gallery through September 30. This event is free and open to the public.

Brian Coleman has made his mark on the national contemporary art scene. His work is in high demand with a broad range of collectors and designers. Coleman is a non-objective painter, heavily influenced by the abstract expressionists.

Coleman recently became a first time father and this experience has him reflecting on ideas of how we learn and also the process of building memories. Those familiar with his work will find that he has taken a departure from his large organic shapes. In this collection his brushwork is more energized. His forms, which used to appear methodical and organized, are now replaced with clusters of gestures, which leap off the canvas. Additionally, the color palette has grown more daring. The compositions, which are comprised of many smaller brushstrokes, give the work robust energy. Although Coleman’s work is strongly rooted in Modern art, the constitution of each piece is tangible.

Come, see for yourself.
