2nd Annual Holiday Tennis Classic Returns To Family Circle Tennis Center
The Family Circle Tennis Center has scheduled the second annual Holiday Tennis Classic tennis tournament at Charleston’s premier tennis facility, December 4th - 6th, 2009. The public is invited to participate in this United States Tennis Association (USTA) sanctioned South Carolina Level 4 event in singles, doubles, and mixed competition, and must register by Sunday, November 29th via TennisLink™ at USTA.com using tournament number 704126709.
A portion of event revenue, proceeds from a silent auction, and toys donated by tournament participants will all benefit children at Boys & Girls Clubs of the Trident Area. The Family Circle Tennis Center, home of the Family Circle Cup, is a 32-acre award-winning public tennis facility located on Daniel Island, in Charleston, SC.
“The Holiday Tennis Classic is one of only two adult tournaments held during the month of December in South Carolina, so it’s the perfect event for league players to cap off the year with teammates and friends before the holidays arrive,” noted Dewey Caulder, Tennis Director, Family Circle Tennis Center. “Players will enjoy great tennis, a festive holiday atmosphere, good food and entertainment, as well as the warm feeling they’ll get from making a difference in the lives of local children.”
Check-in will start at 4:30pm, and play will begin immediately following player gift distribution at 5:30pm on Friday, December 4th. Early round matches are scheduled that evening, followed by a player party with a pasta dinner including a silent auction to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Trident Area, and live music. Participants are asked to donate a toy to be given to the Boys & Girls Club during the party. Matches are scheduled throughout Saturday with lunch provided to all tournament participants by Chick-fil-A. The tournament will conclude on Sunday, December 6th, with a complimentary lunch provided by The Daniel Island Grille. Adult beverages will be provided throughout the tournament.
This event offers competition for the following levels, utilizing both clay and hard courts:
Men’s Singles & Doubles: 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5
Women’s Singles & Doubles: 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5
Mixed Doubles: 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, 9.0
All divisions must have three player or team entries, and players may enter up to two events, but not in the same category. A round-robin format will be used in any three-person/team draw. Tennis balls will be provided by Dunlop, the official ball and racquet of the Family Circle Tennis Center and Family Circle Cup.
The Daniel Island Holiday Festival will also occur on the grounds of the Family Circle Tennis Center during the tournament from 10:00am - 6:00pm on Saturday, December 5th. Players can visit over 80 vendors inside Family Circle Stadium and enjoy fun for the whole family including holiday shopping, a stage with live entertainment, caroling & a tree lighting.
